In an interview that aired Sunday on CBS’s “60 Minutes,” President-Elect Donald Trump told Lesley Stahl that he was going to turn down the presidential salary and will take just $1 a year.
Trump said, “I think I have to by law take $1, so I’ll take $1 a year. I don’t even know what it is. Do you know what the salary is?”
After Stahl told him he would be giving up $400,000 a year, Trump replied, “No, I’m not going to take the salary. I’m not taking it.”

History shows that only two previous presidents opted out of their salaries (and used it toward charity or staff pay) — Herbert Hoover and John F. Kennedy.
I’ll bet you a presidential salary that Hillary Clinton would NOT have made this same decision. Agree?
